Of course, my first lesson was the hardest. I am new to blogging and despite thinking I’d got the gist of it, discovered to my horror at this session that I am a loooonnnnnnnngggggggg way off that! The other bloggers at the workshop were experts. Real, genuine experts. No doing it for fun here, these bloggers exchanged blog cards like pros. I lingered in the corner hoping to glean enough from their conversations to be able to work a similar magic on my pitiful blog. Unfortunately, the hitch with this plan was that they were all talking, with great enthusiasm, in tech-speak. Page rankings, html coding, paid and sponsored links, indexing, crawling. I was out of my depth and drowning. Nothing like trying to run before I can walk!
But I’m not stupid and I know my way around the internet and most computer software, including some very basic html so I refused to be put off and took copious notes while listening to try and help me better understand what was being said. And, I think it worked. Don’t get me wrong, I still need to do lots more work to optimise my blog and improve my page ranking, but at least I now know I need to do that! Until today, I’d naively thought just writing was enough, but my goodness there is so much more to it than that!
So for lesson two, how about we start with what some of these terms mean?

Oh you don’t need any encouragement to come along to Britmums! You’re already a veteran of blogging conferences!
